The Triumph Stag made its debut in 1970 in the UK after much work and deliberation to bring this Triumph model to fruition, which began about 1964. Due to company mergers and reorganizations, with a lot of trouble with company policy, financial difficulties, and changes of company directors, the Triumph Stag almost never made it. Designed by the famous Italian stylist designer, Giovanni Michelotti, the Triumph Stag began its life as a makeover of the Triumph 2000 6105KV by Michelotti in 1964. In 1965 Harry Webster viewed Michelotti’s show car and acquired the design for Triumph. (Michelotti originally designed the Triumph Stag as a show car using the base of the Triumph 2000 to begin with). By 1966, this new Triumph show car was shipped to Triumph in Canley. In 1968, Spen King took over production for Harry Webster. In 1969 the first production standard car was produced; and in June of 1970, the Triumph Stag was launched. The Triumph Stag was produced only from 1970 to 1977. The Stag was imported to the US from 1971 through 1973. Most of the imported Triumph Stags were shipped to the US. Production of the Stag continued in the UK until 1977 when production was discontinued. Of the 25,877 Triumph Stag cars produced in all between 1970 and 1977, about 9,000 Stags survive in the UK today. “All of the problems associated over the years have been solved by those enthusiast clubs supporting the Stag.” The Triumph Stag is listed in a Time magazine article as one of the 50 worst cars of all time. The Triumph Stag is called a “despicable, rotten-to-the-core mockery of a car,” “ruined by half-hearted, half-witted, utterly temporized engineering,” and a “monumental failure.” Accordingly, the timing chains broke, the aluminum heads warped, bearings would seize, and “the water pump would poop the bed.” The Triumph Stag was overhauled and overhauled trying to make it a better car until in 1977 sales and production were discontinued due to loss of market demand for the car. But however the Triumph Stag is a wonderful classic car owned by classic car enthusiasts world wide and there are Triumph Stag clubs where owners and enthusiasts can exchange information and parts to improve their Stags; and today Stags are driven as classic cars by their proud owners. One Triumph Stag club called the Stag Club USA was formed in the summer of 1992 “to provide owners and enthusiasts of North American Triumph Stags the opportunity to meet fellow owners and enthusiasts.” On the web, this Category:Home › Other • Pomegranates: A newly discovered superfood • Where did the joke why did the chicken cross the road come from and why is it funny? • Can mothers diagnosed with bipolar disorder make good parents? • Spiritual evolution of human consciousness • Tips for getting a college basketball scholarship • Living with Pseudotumor cerebri (PTC) • Caring for the caregiver • Technologys impact on society
